SITE RESEARCH
A very handy tool in the search for our promised land has been Google streetview. Taking a virtual stroll through a suburb can save a lot of time and resources, which is fundamentally the whole point of the Coup. However Melbourne's industrial precincts, which have been our main focus, are rapidly disappearing, and a run down furniture factory on Google Maps may already be a block of designer apartments. For this reason group visits to potential sites have been a regular occurrence.
We aren't necessarily looking for land that's already on the market, but being able to decipher real estate agent's shorthand is a ninja skill, and we've come across a few curly ones that are especially noteworthy:
Motivated Seller: They need to get rid of the property before the petrol station and carwash goes up next door.
Sought after Location: If you need ready access to drugs and prostitutes
Dream Location: Because a nightmare is a kind of a dream isn't it?
Convenient to Transport: Adjacent to, if not underneath a Westgate freeway off ramp
Cycle to work: If you're Lance Armstrong
